Meet Mrs. Kritsch

Second Grade Teacher

Hello and welcome to my class! This will be my eighth year teaching in the Solon Community School District. I graduated from the University of Iowa in 2011 with an Elementary Education degree with endorsements in reading, math and Spanish. I have a passion for using technology to actively engage students. I earned a Master's in Technology Integration from Graceland University.

I enjoyed being a cheerleader at the University of Iowa for all sports. Needless to say, I am a HUGE Hawkeye fan! I am married to Anson, a high school Social Studies teacher {also a former archeologist from the Office of the State Archeologist of Iowa}, we have a beautiful three-year-old daughter, Isabel (Izzy), and we have a highly energetic Red Heeler, Jax.

I love teaching as a career and as a hobby. I moved to a new classroom over the summer and can't wait to share it with you and your child. This year is going to be great!

Curriculum

See What We Are Using to Help Us Learn

Reading

We will be using a reading curriculum by Fountas & Pinnell. There are multiple components which include: interactive read alouds, shared readings, guided readings, as well as phonics and word study.

Math

Our math curriculum is called Go Math! There are some very cool online features students and teachers have access to.

Social Studies

Our second grade team uses the Social Studies Alive! curriculum.

Writing

We are in our fourth year of implementing Lucy Calkins Units of Study. We focus on four main writing areas: Narrative, Opinion, Informative, and Poetry.

Science

The district utilizes the VAST Science Kits from the GWAEA. The kits we use are Solids & Liquids, Insects & Plants, and Pebbles, Sand & Silt

Guidance

A guidance instructor will be teaching guidance lessons to our class every other week. On weeks we do not have guidance we will hold Class Meetings to reinforce guidance skills.
